Unqork Unveils Codeless as a Service

At Unqork Create 2022, Unqork CEO Gary Hoberman unveiled Codeless as a Service. Read the announcement and watch Gary’s keynote to learn more! Highlights What is Codeless as a Service? From the press release:Codeless as a Service allows enterprise customers to seamlessly build, run and manage next generation software – with a single open data definition. Unqork customers can achieve a secure, multi-cloud codeless architecture for applications that provide usability, extensibility, upgradability, portability, reliability and more. As a result, customers are able to create future-proof software applications that unlock substantial productivity gains with a faster proof of value than traditional coding. Additionally, Unqork announced two major investments in the evolution of its codeless platform, Unqork OS and Codeless Data Experiences. Read more. “A category that has never existed before”From the keynote:“Codeless as a Service picks up where the serverless movement left off in the journey of abstraction, empowering enterprises to build, run, and manage next-generation software—all with a single, open data definition” [...]In his keynote, Hoberman argued that CaaS is fundamentally different from low-code/no-code tools, which still require significant manual coding—and/or generate lots of new code themselves. "Unqork does not generate code. It is an interpreter of code,” said Hoberman. “That’s why Codeless as a Service is not just another tool in a tool shed. It is a category that has not existed before.”

New Documentation Hub Look and Feel

In an effort to continue producing highly-detailed documentation for Unqork Creators, the Documentation Hub has undergone some changes. These changes were made to improve user experience and allow for easier navigation of the documentation. In addition to the changes to the site, ongoing updates to the look and feel of our documents are taking place. With the new component UI changes, you’ll find the documentation more intuitive and more representative of what you see when configuring modules. What ChangedDocumentation Hub Improved Search: While we continue to improve our search engine, an industry-standard documentation site should not be dependent on it. You’ll find a completely restructured side navigation for the different buckets of our site. This includes alphabetized organization, and lower-level documentation moved to top-level sections. These changes make it easier to locate documentation based on topic, and minimize clicking. Documentation Hub articles remain accessible within our Community Hub search:  New Landing Pages: We’ve also created new landing pages for all top-level sections of the side-nav. These landing pages provide brief descriptions of the lower-level documentation in that section and include direct links. For example, check out the Table Operators section of the Data Workflow: Operator Library in our User Manual. New How-to Organization: All How-to guides are now housed in the How-to Guides section, with new landing pages explaining each guide of that section. For example, check out the Module Editor: Component Library section of our How-to Guides. Improved Navigation: With the new UI changes to components, use the side-nav to navigate the article itself better. This change reduces scrolling and allows everyone to use the Doc Hub as it was intended: as a true reference site to find the exact information you are looking for. For example, check out the new and improved Panel and Text Field component articles. Component Articles With the new look and feel of components, we made documentation changes to match the UI. Tables now look identical to the tables you would see in the actual component settings. Updated images that display the new component settings. In our step-by-step procedures, you’ll see new text colors that match the component. For example, Property ID and Label Text colors. As you proceed through the step-wise procedures, hover over the settings we ask you to configure to display descriptions. This change keeps you on task and minimizes the need to scroll back to the settings portion of the doc. For example, hover over the Property ID in step 2 of the Text Field component article. Instead of bold text for steps like “Click Save & Close” and “Save your module”, you’ll now see this text as the actual button you would click in the component. While these changes appear as images, they are still compatible with any customers that need to use a translation tool, like Google Translate.  Documentation RequestsWe value your feedback. Announcing Our Latest Community Hackathon (Plus FAQ)

Today, we are excited to launch our third Unqork Community Hackathon! The TL;DRThis asynchronous competition will take place throughout the months of November and December with a final deadline of January 16 (updated deadline after extensions).  The focus is workflow applications, specifically newer features that enable parallel execution!  Everything else you need to know is available on this event page: F.A.Q.In addition to the details on the event page, below are some anticipated questions you might have. We’ll update this blog with other frequently asked questions as they occur.  Who can participate? Any Creator in our community: customer, partner, Unqork staff, and even those still considering and exploring Unqork. The only requirement is that you have Creator access to an environment. (If you’re able to log in to the Community Hub, you have the right access.)Note: While Unqork staff are welcome to participate, we’ll be limiting the competition to non-staff Creators. You can still earn 100 points for participating and showcase your expertise and creativity if you approve us to share your app with the community.  What’s different from the last Hackathon? Mostly just the topic of our challenge. Last time, we focused on our enhanced grid system; this time, we’re focusing on new workflow functionality that enables multi-player tasks and flows (parallel execution).Additionally, we’re asking all participants to build within the same Community Hackathon workspace within the Training environment.  Why build in the training environment and Community Hackathon workspace? We need to be able to access your application. Applications in other environments are not accessible by our judges and other Creators. Building in the same workspace makes finding and reviewing the applications easier for everyone.  How do I sign up? We’re asking you to sign up via the event page. When you sign up, you’ll receive the link for submitting your application. This helps us know who is planning to submit an application for the Hackathon. It’s helpful in case we need to send you any updates, like if we decide to extend the deadline or if there’s any other guidance we have to give.  Is there a time limit? How much time will it take to participate? We believe you can and should participate in this Hackathon even if you only spend a few hours on your app. While there is no time limit, there’s also no time minimum. If you only have an hour or two to spare, we recommend the steps in the next question. So then, why the long timeline? As an asynchronous competition, we’re allowing plenty of time for you to build your application whenever you have some free time to explore. Whether that means working for a few hours in one sitting or for a few minutes here and there across a few weeks.  Can we participate as a group? No. While I love the idea (it’s Community!), most participants will be building on their own. For fairness in judging, it makes sense to keep all applications to those built by individuals. If we get enough interest and participation, we will explore adding a group category for our next Hackathon.  How do I get started? The primary focus of these Hackathons is to give you a fun reason to explore new functionality and fine tune your skills as a Creator. Getting started means first familiarizing yourself with these new grid components. Sign up via the event page. Review the documentation and other learning resources.  Come up with your application use case. It can be simple; it cam be complex. It can be fun, it can solve a business problem. Whatever use case you can think of to meet the criteria outlined on the event page. Outline your general config. Develop a plan; map out how you might build this application. This will save you time and help you manage the time you spend building. It also might help you earn bonus points, by considering what Marketplace accelerators you can leverage to enhance your application with pre-built functionality.  Start building! Log-in to the training environment and build your application within the Community Hackathon workspace.Who will see my application?Initially, just our judges. But we hope that you’ll opt-in to sharing your application in posts like this on the Community Hub. This will help other Creators learn from your work by examining your configuration and asking questions, or maybe even sharing advice. If you’re chosen as a finalist, many more will see your application on our live showcase event. And the audience gets to choose the winner! It should be noted, others in the training environment will be able to see your application, both as you build and after it’s complete. So if you want to keep it a secret, get creative with how you name it. 😎 Can I submit more than one application? Absolutely! Any submissions received by the deadline will be considered. In fact, I’ll give you 100 points for each application you submit. I don’t think I’ll win, why should I participate? This is a fun way to explore functionality you might not yet have a use case for in your day job. Maybe you’re early on in the build of your application, maybe you specialize with data workflow, but don’t get to configure the UI, maybe you’re part of a large team and don’t get to design or make the big decisions on your apps. With this Hackathon, you get to own every part of building a (small) application, as well as having the freedom to get creative or have fun with your use case!  Okay, but what are the prizes? Each participant will receive 100 points, as well as the Hackathon Participant badge on their Community profile. Finalists each more points, more badges, and more prizes. More details on the event page.  Do you have any examples I can review? Absolutely! If you haven’t yet, consider watching the recordings of our first  and second Hackathon Showcase events. You’ll see our four finalists demo their applications. Additionally, you can watch our winners, @Pushparaj and @PriyankaS explain their winning configuration in more detail on these recordings: Pushparaj & Priyanka. Finally, you can find all four of our finalists’ applications, plus a few others, in our Use Case Showcase forum. These posts include their description, as well as links to review both the configuration and the Express preview of the application.  What if I have other questions? Reply below, send me a message, or email to community@unqork.com

Each month, our Unqork Community continues to grow and thrive. We’re seeing new Creators join, more active users, more contributing users, and higher engagement than ever before. With that, I think we’re ready to try something new. Introducing Monthly Community ChallengesEach month, I will challenge us all to participate in one common focus area. These monthly challenges will be ways earn additional points, but the larger goal is to strengthen our community. What to ExpectYou’ll see a mix of challenge types from ways to level up and sharpen your skills (ex. Hackathons), to new types of conversations to try (ex. TIL), and simple ways to foster relationships and an overall sense of community. You can also expect:Announcements on the first Wednesday of the month. Deadlines of the end of that month (sometimes the day before).  Experiments on new ways for us to connect and engage.October’s ChallengeWe’re going to start simple this time around.Ensure your profile is up-to-date and all 5 fields are completed: Profile Picture Name* Job Title* Company* Location*Deadline: End of day on October 30. (This way you can get your points on the 31st to count towards October totals.)*These fields are all private and only visible to The Unqork Community team. The only public information at this time is your profile picture, username, and join date. Challenge IncentivesEarn 50 bonus points (10 for each field). Only complete profiles are eligible. (Already complete? Double check to ensue your information is right, but you’ll still earn the points!)Additionally, a chance at swag! Community is about the shared success and group contributions. For every 50 Creators that have all 5 fields updated, I will randomly select a Creator to receive an Unqork hat. (Ex. If 200 Creators have complete profiles, I will select 4 winners to receive the hat.)Unqork Expert hatHow This HelpsWhy are we doing this? How does it help strengthen our Community? Two primary reasons: Profile Pictures are the first step towards building more peer-to-peer connects and relationships. Our Community is made of people, not bots. A picture of you (or photo that represents you) helps build connections. That way, someone might recognize your photo on Linkedin when they reach out to connect or, better yet, recognize you when attending an event like Unqork Create.   Complete and accurate profile fields give our team better data for a better understanding of you. (We’ve also updated our registration process over the first year and we don’t have names for everyone in our Community.)In the future, we’ll build new Community Hub features, as well as events and programs based on these two areas. It could be features to help you network on the Community Hub or perhaps user groups and events that connect a specific region or persona. Have an idea for what you’d like to see? You can always submit it here on the Community Hub.

Featured Questions: Earn Bonus Points for Replies and Answers

Update: As of September 2023, answering featured questions also helps you earn Answer Hero status. The rest of the below article is still valid. Now, when you see questions listed as featured, you’ll earn bonus points for replies and answers. However, I’d like to back up and start this update talking about all of you, our community members. Background and ContextYou’ve created an amazing, supportive, and vibrant community of Creators helping each other. Because of your contributions, the core experience on Community Hub is pretty incredible: More than 90% of the time, you will receive a reply to your question. About 55% of the time, your question will be answered. The median time to a reply is within a few hours. Most receive a reply within the first few days. These numbers are a large reason why, on average, 97% of our active community members are returning multiple times throughout the month. When you ask a question, there’s a good chance you will receive some help. However, we still have room for improvement. Questions that do not receive a reply in the first 1-2 days often get buried in the feed or lost in the shuffle.  Improvements  Here at Unqork, we’re invested in the success of our Creators, and our community is no exception. That’s why we will continue improving on your experience and driving more answers to your questions. Introducing Featured QuestionsIf a question has gone without a reply for more than a few days, we will now highlight that question as featured and bump it back up to the top of the activity feed. You’ll see the question featured with a bookmark icon in the activity feeds and a slightly different color. When you’re on the question page, you’ll see the Featured label at the top. Example of a Featured Question in the feed or at the top of a ForumThese improvements will help bring featured questions to the attention of experts in our community who may be able to help. Example of Featured Question labels on the question pageIncentives for Answering Featured QuestionsFor those who reply and and provide answers to these featured questions, we’ve added bonus points to say thank you. These points can help accelerate your path to achieving SME status or climbing our community leaderboard. Earn 5 points for each reply. 8 total when combined with the standard 3 points for replies. Earn 10 points when your reply is marked as the answer. 30 total when combined with the standard 20 points awarded for answers. Our GoalsDrive Creator success with helpful replies to questions. Increase our Knowledge Base with more answered questions. Increase the percentage of questions that receive helpful replies.  Improve the time to when questions receive a response.  Accelerate the SME journey for those helping answer questions. What do you think? Please reply below or send me a message with your questions and feedback. Note: After a question is marked as answered, it will no longer be featured and bonus points will no longer be awarded for subsequent replies.
